It’s Official! Once a Marine, Always a Marine!

But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.”

To clarify, my good buddy and combat Marine Marion Sturkey wrote in his book “Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines;

Once the title, United States Marine, has been earned, it is retained forever. The enlisted and commissioning oaths are never rescinded.

Marines fall into five categories:

  • Active Duty Marines
  • Retired Marines
  • Marine Veterans
  • Reserve Marines
  • Dead Marines
